About Bahareh
I am a National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow. My main affiliation is with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Institute of Arctic Biology. I work remotely in Dr. Mario Muscarella’s lab, where I investigate the role of gut microbes in helping hosts consume toxic and low-quality diets. Additionally, I am based in Southern California, where I am also a Visiting Scientist with Dr. Tobin Hammer in the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Department. There, I explore the variations in bumblebee gut microbiomes across time. I completed my PhD at UCI with Dr. Steven Allison, where I explored how environmental microbes respond to climate change. I am passionate about communicating science to broad audiences, as well as promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields.
